What Is the Ring of O?
The Ring of O takes its name from Story of O, the 1954 novel by Pauline Réage, in which the heroine is given a ring as a sign of belonging. Readers in the BDSM community adopted it, and it became a discreet signal between people who know the code. Today the symbol appears on rings, necklaces and collars.
